Just to give you a little datum that might interest you, Champions wasn't the first superhero role-playing game. It's predated by Superhero 2044, the first known published superhero role-playing game. Villains and Vigilantes was the second superhero role-playing game. Champions was the third such -- and the editions are slightly different, like fine wines, in the game-play style. Most people I know prefer third edition Champions.

Villains and Vigilantes is a charming game and is remarkable in its approach to many issues. The follow-up game, that is, the next superhero game made by Jeff Dee was Living Legends. Living Legends wasn't really as impressive as V&V for many reasons I shan't go into here (nor elsewhere I think).

Nice list though!

Sorry but I call bull, simply seeing dnd come as number one. DND is TERIBLY designed. The settings are cool, but the actualy mechanics of the game, the very concept of class system is so incredibly limeting. Go play shadowrun and build a charecter you actualy want to and then try going back to dnd and you'll see what I mean.

My game, STARFARING, was a space rpg that came out a year before Traveller. Only trouble is, when Traveller appeared it was so much better that it killed my baby Starfaring game--knocked it right out of the market.
